GivePulse is your hub for service learning and community engaged learning at the University of Missouri. Through meaningful partnerships with local and global communities, students apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges while making a tangible impact.

What is Community engaged learning?
Community engaged learning, sometimes referred to as service learning, integrates academic coursework with hands-on service experiences. Students deepen their learning by applying theory to practice, strengthening both academic understanding and civic responsibility.

Why participate?
Community engaged learning builds critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional skills that employers value. Students gain real-world experience, expand their networks, and develop competencies that strengthen resumes and career readiness.

Research supports the impact of service learning. According to the 2016 Deloitte Volunteer Impact Survey:

• 82% of employers are more likely to choose candidates with volunteer experience

• 85% are willing to overlook other resume gaps when service experience is included

• 80% agree volunteers advance into leadership roles more quickly

Community engaged learning also helps students grow as engaged citizens—building empathy, social awareness, and a stronger connection to their communities.
